Everything we take in from the environment flows through these channels and is then perceived as our experience. And the simplest method for achieving balance is by practicing Brahmacharya, creating moderation in all of our activities. Niyama is perfect training to help you evolve into an enlightened individual. Material things only gain power because of the attachments we build around them. Tapas assists us to perform our daily duties with full effort and determination.

Patanjali considered the Yamas the great, mighty and universal vows. Take one step, one Yama or Niyama at a time and proceed with compassion and without worry of perfection. It means keeping your eye on the prize. It removes the negativity in you though detaching you from the unnecessary things in life. Ahimsa Out of all the Yamas of Yoga, Ahimsa seems to be the most popular one.

Ahimsa is deeply rooted in compassion and is connected to other Hindu philosophies because of this trait. According to Patanjali, you must drop your ego and the endless identification with yourself if you want to achieve yoga goal. Not at all, Niyama is a purely spiritual process. When we become greedy and covetous we lose the ability to see our one eternal possession, the Atman, our true Self. Brahmacharya is a way to get rid of what is unnecessary and to see what we truly need. Through this simple act of dedication we become reminded of our connection to our higher power, and our yoga practice becomes sacred and filled with grace, inner peace, and abounding love.

Within the Royal Path, there are eight branches of yoga: Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. For example, a promise to fast and visit a pilgrimage site is a form of Vrata. For you to achieve this, you should consider your yoga practice as well as all the benefits that you might receive from your yoga practice as an offering to a higher being. Always make small steps that you can accomplish without any challenge. You just need to quiet your ego which is blurring it.
